Lessons Between the Lines – #12

Mindset

We’re going to be diving into a topic that can either make you a legend or leave you in the dust – Mindset.
Your mindset isn’t some fixed trait you’re born with; it’s a choice you make every day.

First things first: there are two types of mindsets – growth and fixed. A fixed mindset tells you that your abilities are set in stone. It’s the voice that says, ‘I can’t do that, I’m just not talented enough.’ It’s an excuse, and it’s a very dangerous one.

But here’s the game-changer: the growth mindset. This is the mindset that says, ‘I can learn, I can improve, and I can become better.’ It’s the mindset that fuels champions, that turns setbacks into comebacks, that embraces challenges as opportunities.

When I coached younger age groups, I would paint the picture of why “Lions” were kings of the jungle. Spoiler…it’s their mentality.  I illustrate to the littles, that the Lion isn’t the biggest, the strongest, and smartest etc. The lion is king because he walks with no regard for what anything out there thinks of him. He hunts when he wants and executes every task in his social structure in the savannah.

Now, let’s talk about adversity. Life’s gonna hit you hard.
But guess what? A fixed mindset crumbles under pressure. It’s fragile, like glass. They are quick to complain and place blame, adopting the victim role.
A growth mindset, on the other hand, thrives in the face of challenges. It’s resilient, like steel. It seeks to help the team as a whole to be successful and they take responsibility and learn from missed calculations.

And don’t even get me started on success. A fixed mindset celebrates victories and then stops trying. A growth mindset? It’s hungry for more. It sees success not as a destination, but as a stepping stone to greater heights.

Here’s the truth: your mindset is a decision, plain and simple. It’s a choice you make every single day. Are you gonna play it safe, stick with what you know, and let fear dictate your actions?
Or are you gonna embrace discomfort, seek out challenges, and let your hunger for growth guide you into your true destiny?

Your mindset isn’t set in stone; it’s clay that you can shaped &  molded. It’s up to you whether you’re gonna let fear set in and choke or be hungry for development and grow as a result of putting in the hard work and getting it done. Are you gonna let setbacks define you, or are you gonna let them fuel you?

Remember this: your mindset shapes your reality. It’s not about what happens to you; it’s about how you respond to what happens. That’s where your power lies. This is your life, your mindset, and your time to rise and kill it today”
